User Manual Boosted ReVOLT! Dashboard

Installing your Dashboard
Hardware, using original cables
Prepare your scooter to install the dashboard:
Open up the deck of your scooter and make sure your VESC is completely switched off. Remove connections from the cable going to the dashboard. If possible, unplug the battery.
Pry the protective top lens of by inserting very carefully something sharp alongside the edge of the lens. A hobby knife tends to do the job well. The lens is held in place by glue and comes off easily. Take off the lens.
Use a Torx driver to remove both screws that holds in place the plastic filter. Remove the filter.
Carefully lift the original dashboard. Carefully remove the wired connections from the dashboard.
The original dashboard can now be removed completely.
Mount your new dashboard and connect the wires respectively:
- One 6-wire connection (connection to the VESC)
- One 3-wire connection (5V throttle connection)
- 2 wire connection blue-red (brake lever connector)
- Remaining 2 wire connection black-red (front lights connector)
At your VESC, connect the wires as follows:
- RED wire: 5V+ (Don't use the 5V from the CAN port, but use another terminal, like PPM. The port should be able to source at least 300mA of current.)
- Black wire: GND
- Yellow wire: CAN H
- Green wire: CAN L
- Blue wire: ADC 1
Mount your dashboard correctly in the scooter, making sure no wires are stuck in between parts
Place the plastic lens on top of the dashboard
Use the screws to screw the filter and dashboard in place
Use some simple plastic or universal glue to glue the protective lens back on. Make sure the button can be pressed easily.
Clamp or hold the lens in place with tape or a clamper while drying. Do not use the dashboard while the lens is not dry.
Hardware, using custom wires (Wev)
Your Wev is equipped with a custom 11-pin wire from dashboard to your VESC. You can reuse the same cable or swap out the cable for a 6-wire one, your choice. However, the 11-pin connector is not compatible with the ReVOLT dashboard.
Follow previous steps until wiring the dashboard.
You will have to mount new connectors on the cable on the dashboard side. The connectors used are JST GH connectors. These connectors are standardly used in electronics and can be purchased from a lot of electronics stores.
You will need connectors with 6, 3 and 2 pins:

Wiring the Rear Lights
When using the original cables, the white wire connects to the 6th pin of the connector, Rear Lights +. The GND terminal of the rear lights is wired inside the cable and you won't have to worry about it.
If you use your own cable to the rear lights, connect the positive terminal of the rear lights to Rear Lights+ and manually connect the negative terminal to any GND on your VESC.
Compatible Lights
The dashboard is compatible with the stock lights. These consume 50mA of power at 5V. (.25W) The dashboard is not compatible with any lights requiring more current! However, you may use an optocoupler in between the dashboard and your custom lights to switch your lights still using the dashboard.
VESC Settings
Before using your dashboard, you will have to change some basic settings in your VESC.
A dedicated tool is available for you to automatically set the required settings. (Mac and Windows)

Starting Your Scooter
Kickstart your scooter while shortly pushing it forward or manually make a wheel turn. Your dashboard and scooter will turn on automatically.
Additionally, you may also use the hardware button shipped with the VESC you are using. This depends on the specific model you used in your scooter. (for ex. Stormcore devices ship with an rgb button)
The button on the dashboard does not turn on the scooter.
The dashboard will display "Lo." (Locked)
Within a couple of seconds, hold one of the wireless tags, keys or phone against the top of the dashboard. If no key is registered, this step is not necessary and your scooter will start automatically.
The dashboard is shipped with two tags. Both can be used to unlock your scooter. One tag acts as the master tag (marked 'M' in chalk). To change the keys of remove them altogether, please read under 'Registering Keys'.
Your dashboard will register the presence of the key and if correct, a startup animation will be shown.
Upon startup the speed and battery state of charge will be indicated.
If the key is not recognised, the scooter will show "no". If no right key is presented within a couple of seconds, the scooter will automatically shutdown, hence making theft more difficult.
The throttle of the scooter is deactivated by default until a valid key has been shown.
Shutting Your Scooter Down
Long press the button while the scooter is not riding. The scooter, including the VESC, will shutdown.
Consulting Battery Charge
Press once on the main button to consult battery charge. The dashboard will digitally indicate the state of charge of the battery.
If not using a smart BMS, the number presented is an 'educated guess'. It may vary depending battery type, riding style and cell chemistry type. Your remaining capacity may also slightly fluctuate while riding, this is normal.
The most accurate battery measurements are performed when not riding. This is a restriction of the VESC itself.
If using a Smart BMS (like DieBieMS), the battery charge presented will be much more accurate since it isn't solely based on voltage.
- At the time of writing, the software on the dashboard does not yet include an integration with the Smart BMS.
Switching Lights
Your lights will switch automatically on and off based on light intensity outside. To switch to manual mode, double press the main button.
Once manual mode is entered, your lights won't switch automatically anymore, until you fully reboot your scooter.
Double press the main button to switch your lights on and/or off.
Registering Keys (tag/card/phone)
To register or remove keys from your dashboard, triple press the main button, while the scooter is switched on and not moving.
You will be asked to present a valid card to enter this admin mode.
3 card slots are available to which you can register a key. Single press the main button to rotate through them. Upon a fourth press 'CE' (card erase) will appear on the screen.
'C1': (Card one) will appear on the screen. This is the main slot. The key associated with this slot acts as master key: it can only be removed or overwritten by first authenticating with itself.
I advise you to not actively use the master key, but store it in a safe place. There is no way to recover your dashboard if the master key is lost.
A dot after the letters indicate that the slot contains a key. So for example:
- 'C1.': master slot contains a key
- 'C2': second slot available, no key
To register a key to a slot, simply present it on the dashboard. This key may be an NFC tag or card of type ISO-14443-A, or a smartphone using a compatible card emulation mode.
If you present the same key already registered to the slot, it will be removed from the slot (the dot will disappear to confirm).
To register a new key on the master slot, you will first have to present the master key to clear the slot and then you may register a new key.
To erase all keys at once, present a registered tag on the 'CE' (card erase) slot. If (and only) if you present the master key will the first slot be erased as well.
A scooter that doesn't have any keys registered to any slot will be able to be started without having to present a key. It will also allow to register new keys without having to initially unlock it.
Changing Settings
Settings can be changed using the dedicated ReVOLT! Tool.

Error codes
The best hardware can sometimes malfunction, and so may this dashboard. It is equipped to show an error code if something goes wrong. Press the main button a single time to discard the error code.
The error code will show as "E<number of the error>", the red error icon will flash.

Software updates are available through the ReVOLT! tool.
